Luxembourg to become a member of the Global Green Growth Institute

With the submission of the instrument of ratification of the agreement establishing the Global Green Growth Institute (GGGI), during a ceremony held on 10 February 2026 at the Institute’s headquarters in Seoul, Luxembourg has completed the formalities for its accession to the GGGI and will become its 55th member.

The GGGI was founded as a treaty-based international, intergovernmental organization in 2012 at the United Nations Conference on Sustainable Development. It supports its Member States in transitioning their economies toward a green growth model that simultaneously promotes poverty reduction, social inclusion, environmental sustainability, and economic development. With 55 Member States and 30 partner countries and regional integration organizations in the process of accession, GGGI delivers programs and projects in more than 57 countries.

As a global leader in climate and sustainable finance and in official development assistance, Luxembourg is committed to further advancing green, sustainable, and inclusive economic growth in line with its international obligations, leveraging the expertise of the Luxembourg financial centre to that end. Luxembourg’s membership in the GGGI follows several years of strategic partnership during which Luxembourg supported multiple projects in African countries and Small Island Developing States (SIDS), which are among the most vulnerable to the impacts of climate change. Together with the GGGI, Luxembourg also launched the Global Trust Fund on Sustainable Finance Instruments (GTF) in 2023. In collaboration with the Luxembourg Stock Exchange, the GTF leverages capital markets and strengthens country-level capacity for sustainable finance. This has resulted in the successful mobilization of USD 2.1 billion in climate finance in its first two years, supporting projects in 18 countries around the world.
